FIT test used in bowel cancer screening programme has potential to be used for gut microbiome testing
In a proof of concept study amongst healthy volunteers recruited at Newcastle University, FIT kits used in the bowel cancer screening programme were tested to assess suitability for testing the gut microbiome. This study tested FIT samples alongside current ways of testing for the microbiome and showed that gut microbiome diversity in FIT kits were similar to current standards of fresh stool.
